“Choose a book to illustrate” Was the prompt I was given in my Book Illustration class, we were tasked with choosing any book to illustrate a cover,
and three pages, as well as a full book dummy. I chose a science textbook and to illustrate a chapter on the digestive system,
aiming it at kids. I paired down the multi page textbook to the most important paragraphs and used those to outline how I wanted to illustrate the pages.
In my developed illustrations I focused on color and texture. The goal was to show scientifically accurate anatomy with a colorful and texturally exciting twist.
Creating scientific illustrations for a young audience is something I am passionate about and that excites me. Explaining big concepts to kids is
difficult and making the content engaging and understandable depends in large part on the visual aspects, such as videos and/or illustrations.
